We have now entered a new age; An age where we can almost do everything with our smartphones.
Gone were the days when we use to do things separately; a telephone to make a voice call, a typewriter to compose documents, a telegram to send instant (it was arguably instant back in the days) text messages, the postal office for sending cards, letters and pictures, watching on a television, listening on a radio, taking pictures with a camera, taking videos on a camcorder, accessing the internet though a personal computer, paying for a merchandise using a physical card and the list goes on. As I am typing this article I am using a mobile phone. We are now in the age where you can do everything with this small device that fits on your hand. Technology nowadays can either make or brake you, but you cannot deny it is an integral part to almost each and everyone of us, we just have to know how to maximize and properly use this to our advantage. Some of you may be new in the world of smartphones, so don’t be ashamed to admit since it isn’t too late to get to know the what’s the fuzz is all about. Here let me provide a brief article on the necessity of mobile phones and how we can wisely choose the best one for us.
To be honest there are a lot of different types to talk about, and it would take more than one article for me to cover them all; but let me try to break it down and simplify everything to help you make the right decision.
So here we go:
Dumb phones – Costs around Php 400 to Php 1,200. This is the most basic of all, comes with a screen and a classic keypad, usual feature you could get is making voice calls and receiving calls, receiving and sending text messages, listening to FM radio, play some basic games. This is basically the easiest choice for people who doesn’t WANT the fancy features but have to keep up with everyone using technology. This is one perfect choice if you have a very low budget but NEEDS to keep in touch with the people to need to reach.
Feature phones – Costs around Php 1,100 to Php 4,999. The phones in this category can either be purely screen and keypad or touchscreen. This is more or less the same as Dumb phones but has some added features like memory expansion via micro-sd cards, basic camera anywhere from VGA to usually 2mp that can take pictures and also shoot videos, blue-tooth connection. Can access the internet but on a very basic level either thru WAP or with 2G which honestly does not give justice to browsing the internet. But this category is good for those who are not to tech savvy but want to try out how smartphones work it.
Mid-range smartphones – Cost around Php 5,000 to Php 19,999 in this category you can expect to feel and understand what smartphones are all about. Front and back camera’s with megapixels ranging from 5mp to 20mp, which can be good for taking pictures, selfies, shooting videos, video chat. 3G to 4G internet connection, WIFI. Using phones in this category is a good start for those who want to explore the world of smartphones and this also helps you to understand what type of smartphone you will need. And this is were you start to have some good gaming phones.
High-End smartphones – Costs around Php 20,000 and above. These kind of phones are not meant for those who are exploring into smartphones for the first time, people who have no prior experience or just want to do basic stuff like calling and texting. However taking pics for Instagram or just about using social media sites on their phones, I suggest to just stick with Mid-range phones. Smartphones in this category have greater computing power and can almost work like a netbook or even a laptop. It would be a waste for the manufacturers if their device is not properly utilized. Think of taking pictures with almost DSLR like quality, high quality videos with cinema like quality, gaming with superb audio and quality and using it like a laptop. Now dwelling in this category you have to choose wisely, are you buying a high smartphone for, purely gaming? Using it for professional photography? Like, shooting from a distance, taking portrait shots, wide angle shots, for outdoor (rugged), for cyber security (if you use you phone for financial transactions like paying using your smartphones in lieu of credit cards or debit cards), you can also scan and documents and turn them in pdf files, you can use them as projectors. The high-end smartphone is an essential mobile phone that should be taken seriously into consideration when getting one, or else you could may be just throwing your money over the garbage bin.
There you have it, I mostly just covered the basics for the perfect category of your choice. I hope this could help you decide to buy the smartphone you NEED and not what you WANT.
Good luck and enjoy finding the phone of your choice. 🙂
